Thanks to YouTube, we can see President John Kennedy and the First Lady at a LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) meeting on November 21, 1963 in Houston, Texas in the Grand Ballroom of the Rice Hotel. In this video are President John F. Kennedy, Vice President Lyndon Johnson, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Lady Bird Johnson. This was one day before the President was shot in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963.

On Saturday, January 5, 2008, Gallery Hop inaugurates the New Year with an exhibition, "A Brush with Art", featuring the artistic works of Cecilia Roman. The Gallery at Pyon, located at 580 N. High St. on the CAP @ Union Station, invites you to the opening reception, from 6-8 p.m., to meet the Artist.

Cecilia Román is formally trained in the field of audio visual communications. Her artistic vision has evolved over twenty years to include oil paintings focusing upon abstractions.  Her style incorporates the valuable mentoring of community artists.

“Everyone should think about how we can brush with art. This exhibition serves as a catalyst to explore the arts and to use its methods to communicate, create and react to our surroundings. The exhibition is comprised of 15 works that speak the language of expression.”

The exhibition will run from January 5-31 at the Gallery.

Over the year since my SalsaTangoSon web site opened, thanks to Michael Beck from Midwestlatino, I have had the chance to think about what most of my students were asking for. Therefore I decided to try a new format and an update of my website. In addition to information about instruction, and events, the new site will have information about Cuba and Argentina - all about their culture, their people and especially their dances and their music.

The students will also have a place to show their friends and family what they are learning through pictures and video clips that I always take from my classes. You can also leave your testimonial about your experience with SalsaTangoSon. I plan to provide a store for Argentine and Cuban related merchandise and a link to an Argentine Tango Radio station and a Cuban Salsa Radio station.

I’ve been teaching for 18 years, with twelve of those years in the Tri-State area and have great experience, including the advantage of the cultural background of growing up in Buenos Aires, and the one I got for being married to a Cuban bailador for 8 years, to offer current and potential students!

Our New Tango And Salsa Lessons and Workshops starting in January are ready for you to pre-register.
Go to www.salsatangoson.com  and will find all the info in the home page.

I hope you enjoy this new website and also be part of it!
Happy New Year!/ Felices Fiestas para todos!

On Thursday, Dec. 13th, members of Dayton’s Coalition For Solidarity With Immigrants met at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church with City of Dayton and Montgomery County Commissioners, the police and Sheriff’s Office, and members of the community to talk about immigration. The honorable Judge Rice was moderating the meeting.

The goals of the meeting were to educate Commissioners on immigration, contributions of documented and undocumented immigrants to the economy and to the City of Dayton, to illustrate how the arrests and deportations are dividing families, to reeducate on the Matricula Consular, to present a resolution for the Commissioners, and to educate on some ways that Dayton can be a welcoming community for Hispanic immigrants and residents.

Guillermo and Giselle Milord, children of Gloria Milord, a popular community activist in Cincinnati, and one of the founders of "Que Lindo es Panama" dance group, are becoming examples of success and role models for other Hispanics in this area.

They were the driving force behind the Grand Opening of the new World Financial Group Office in the AndersonTownship area on Saturday, December 8, 2007. The office is located at 1060 Nimitzview Dr., Suite 100 in Cincinnati, OH (513-386-9922). Guillermo is the Marketing Director for the area, and Giselle the Branch Office Manager.

World Financial Group (WFG) is a financial services organization based in Duluth, Georgia that markets investment, insurance and mortgage products through a network of associates in the United States and Canada. WFG is a wholly owned subsidiary of The AEGON Group with over $320 Billion in assets. The company takes a holistic view in helping families build wealth and has already helped hundreds of thousands of people profit from the strategies of the rich, and their charge continues today. Their mission is simple: To help people become financially independent no matter what their income so that No family is left behind.

We would like to congratulate Guillermo and Giselle on this important step in their professional career.

And Gloria Milord for such a good upbringing of her children -  she can be a really proud Mom!!!

LULAC chapter at NKU (Northern Kentucky University) has been busy since July 2007 with fundraising money for scholarships for Hispanic students.

Rain or shine, or cold weather as it was last Sunday, volunteers from NKU, under the leadership of Pablo Arellano Jr., the LULAC NKU President, have been working hard at concessions stands at Bengals games.
