Dayton's "Latino Connection" met today in its monthly meeting. Among the topics discussed was the recent visit of Mexican consulate to issue "Matricula consular" to Mexican citizens living in the Dayton area.

Mike Robinson from LaVerdad Marketing informed about upcoming seminar in Dayton on "Understanding Hispanic Market".

Congratulations to Sasha Rionda from "Nuestro Rincon" who according to a Web poll at Blue Chip Review is the "Sexiest Female News Anchor in Cincinnati".

But Sasha is way more than just the looks! Her dedication to the Latino community, her involvement, and her help is appreciated by all. You can see her in many different events, festivals, or concerts - reporting live from them and making us all aware of what is happening in the Tri-State's Latino community.

And she is a wonderful role model for young Latinas in the Tri-State area, showing that hard work and dedication pay off!

CINCINNATI, OHIO (June 1, 2005) - Corporate giants such as PR Newswire, Owens Corning, MetLife, and Fifth Third Bank join LaVERDAD Marketing and Media, a nationally respected Hispanic marketing and research agency, in a campaign to raise corporate and community awareness regarding the needs and business opportunities that exist with the Hispanic market.

LaVERDAD President and CEO Mike Robinson announced today the first wave of sponsors, which include respected names such as MetLife, PR Newswire, Owens Corning, United Way of the Greater Dayton Area, Fifth Third Bank, the Dayton (Ohio) Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, University of Cincinnati, LULAC, BRAVO Magazine, Port Authority of Toledo, MidwestLatino.com, and The Spanish Journal. LaVERDAD expects more sponsors to join the campaign.

The full-day program, “Understanding the Hispanic Market: Business Opportunity or Matter of Survival?” will launch June 24 in Dayton, Ohio at the MetLife campus located at 9797 Springboro Pike in Miamisburg, Ohio.

The 11-city, five-state tour will visit Dayton (June 24), Toledo (July 13), Cleveland (July 14), Columbus (July 19), Indianapolis (Aug. 2), Pittsburgh (Sept. 13), Akron (Sept. 13), Lorain (Sept. 15), Cincinnati (Oct. 4), and Louisville (Oct. 5), before concluding in Detroit on Oct. 12.

The Third Annual Kermesse Latino Festival, this year in its new location in Centro de Amistad in Erlanger, was a great success! The weather cooperated, and the visitors enjoyed variety of Latino food, music, games, dancing, and fun.

To encourage interest in the science among a growing Greater Cincinnati Latino population, Dr. Miriam Kannan, Biology Professor at NKU, and Leo Calderon, Director of NKU's Latino Student Affairs, have organized in 2004 the first Latino/Multicultural Science Camp for local high school students.

In 2005 several local high school students attended the science camp. The class was quite diverse, it included students from Williamtown H.S.; Academy of Multilingual Immersion Studies; Saint Ursula Academy; Withrow International H.S.; East Lakota H.S.; Amelia H.S.; a French student; Covington Catholic H.S.

The students learned about astronomy, chemistry, physics, biology and genetics.

Based on the success of the program, plans are already on the way for the 2006 Science Camp...

Roz Florez is running for Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge position

On June 2 there was a Campaign Reception in the famous Probasco Mansion in honor of Roz and to help her in her fundraising efforts.

When elected, Roz will be the first ever Hispanic to be an elected official in the Hamilton County, and another excellent example how Latinos/Hispanics are serving the community they are living in!

MidwestLatino together with NDL Productions presented a Salsa dance in Ann Arbor this past Sunday. Scheduled to be a weekly Sunday event in the classy Studio 4 in downtown Ann Arbor, it attracted many Salseros, some of them coming as far as Lansing! Superbly organized by NDL Productions, it was a great way to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend the Latin way!
