The Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency, CAA, held its 6th annual legislative breakfast on June 3, 2005 at the Vernon Manor Hotel.

The annual breakfast gives CAA the opportunity to share its successes and to inform elected officials about its exciting new initiatives. Elected officials, or their representatives, from the federal, state, county and city levels of government were represented.

CAA Board member, Mr. V. Anthony Simms-Howell encouraged our elected officials to support the agency on two major legislative issues:

1) Support the reauthorization of the Community Service Block Grant, CSBG, of $636.6 million for fiscal year 2006. The agency’s CSBG budget is $1.7 million.

2) Support the reauthorization of Head Start at the current funding level and reject any proposal to dismantle and/or reduce its current performance standard requirements.

“We help make things happen” is the vision statement of the CAA; and the agency has been doing just that for 40 years. CAA is the second oldest in the nation serving 25,000 low-income individuals and families each year. Through its Community Services, Head Start, and Weatherization programs the agency has a holistic and integrated approach to help the region low-to moderate-income residents empower themselves and become self-sufficient. This is the core to the mission and key to its success.

Gwen L. Robinson is the President/CEO and Mr. Mark B. Lawson, Esq. is the Board Chair. For further information about the agency and its services, please contact

Congratulations to Sasha Rionda from "Nuestro Rincon" who according to a Web poll at Blue Chip Review is the "Sexiest Female News Anchor in Cincinnati".

But Sasha is way more than just the looks! Her dedication to the Latino community, her involvement, and her help is appreciated by all. You can see her in many different events, festivals, or concerts - reporting live from them and making us all aware of what is happening in the Tri-State's Latino community.

And she is a wonderful role model for young Latinas in the Tri-State area, showing that hard work and dedication pay off!

See the final results of the Web poll.
