Community : Cincinnati's Hispanic Chamber donates $10,000 to Katrina Victims

As previously reported by MidwestLatino (read here), Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA decided in October 2005 to donate net proceeds from its 2005 Dinner Gala on Oct. 27th to the Red Cross for victims of Katrina Hurricane.

In its monthly meeting on Tusday, Jan. 24, 2006, the Chamber made good on its promise by giving to Red Cross representatives check for $10,000!!!!

Community : Friends of the Collaborative meet with Mayor Mark Mallory

"Following the riots in 2001, U.S. Department of Justice and Cincinnati Police Department came into an agreement to improve efficiency of the police force by introducing race related and community policing programs. Various programs were initiated under this collaborative agreement, a five-year plan. Many established organizations working for social and environmental justice in the Cincinnati Metropolitan Region agreed to serve as the Friends of the Collaborative to make it a success." On Tuesday, Jan. 24th, the Friends of the Collaborative met with Mayor Mark Mallory to introduce him to the organization, and to discuss with him current issues and effort to make Cincinnati a crime-free city.

LULAC Cincinnati representatives: Jason Riveiro and Lourdes Ribera, will be interviewed on Wednesday, Jan. 25th by Nuestro Rincon. The interview will be broadcasted on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 AM on Local 12.

Jason Riveira is the President of LULAC Cincinnati.

LULAC, The League of the United Latin American Citizen ( advances the economic conditions, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 700 LULAC councils nationwide. Community : West Chester Si Coalition visiting Su Casa

Representatives of West Chester Si Coalition visited on Monday, Jan. 23rd, 2006, Su Casa Social Services to learn more about Su Casa services.

Victor Velez, the Director of Su Casa, provided an overview of Hispanics in Cincinnati and discussed future trends that will impact social services in this area. The tour of the facility increased understanding of the programs provided by Su Casa.

West Chester Sí Coalition (which stands for West Chester YES ! in Spanish) was formed in 2002 in West Chester Township in response to the growing Hispanic population in the community spearheaded by previous West Chester Township Administrator, David Gully. The original membership of the group was diverse with representation from township officials, police, fire, school, businesses, social services and other interested community members.

Under this motto the Mercy Health Partners and Mercy Foundation hosted this Saturday at Music Hall a fundraiser benefiting Mercy Franciscan at St. John, a social service organization that has been lighting up the lives of individuals and families in Over-the-Rhine and surrounding communities for nearly 70 years.

With honorary Chairs: Tina and Peter Frampton, this event attracted over 700 of Who is Who in Cincinnati, generously supporting this good cause.

Veronica Rocco, Owner of Danse Royale Ballroom Dance Studio, and president of the Cincinnati Salsa Club is holding an auditions for serious Salsa dancers on Sunday, January 22nd at 4:00PM at the studio in West Chester, Ohio. Address: 6920 Tylersville Rd., Suite 17, Phone #(513)779-0500.

The requirements for auditioning are:

Requirements for auditioning: At least 1-2 years of Club dancing, extreme talent or personal invitation, plus:

1-Love to Salsa and a strong desire to be a high quality dancer and the desire to perform for FUN!
2-No partner needed.
3-Additional forms of dance preferred but not required.
4-Time commitment and reliability.
5-If have previous experience, a resume and photo and autobiography please bring to audition.
6-Rehearsal times and days TBA (at least 2x per week and at least 2 hours each time)
7-Serious dedication, reliability expected as well as a positive, upbeat and friendly personality.
8-Ability to follow instruction and get along with people a must.
9-Good health, a strong and body with lots of energy, stamina and determination.
10-Willingness to work very hard and have a total blast!

The audition process will include: A Salsa partner combination, some solo footwork (shine combination), and a Hip Hop combination.

Ramon Rodriguez, the 2005 President of the Cincinnati chapter of National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) receives Champion Awards for bringing the NSHMBA National Conference to Cincinnati in October 2006.

The awards are given by the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau to honor individuals who helped bring significant conventions to Cincinnati. For more info about these awards, please read the article in Cincinnati Enquirer

Run completely at the local, grassroots level, the LNSF is coordinated nationally by LNESC. LULAC brings together local fund raising efforts with corporate partners to provide over $750,000.00 in scholarships to all levels of degree seeking students each year.
