Business : Pleasure Inn Signage “For Service Speak English” Found Discriminatory
Posted by admin on 2005/10/6 16:10:00 (3574 reads)

Columbus, OH (October 6, 2005) – The Pleasure Inn engaged in discriminatory practices when it placed a sign in its window stating “For Service Speak English,” according to the Ohio Civil Rights Commission’s (OCRC) ruling today. Tom Ullum who placed the sign in the front window in late Spring 2005 owns the Pleasure Inn, located on U.S. Route 42 in Mason, Ohio, 22 miles north of Cincinnati.

Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) filed the charge with the OCRC on July 11, 2005, alleging discrimination in a place of public accommodation based on national origin. HOME is a Cincinnati fair housing non-profit that has a comprehensive Hispanic program to work with the rapidly growing community in Southwest Ohio, including Warren County where the Pleasure Inn is located.

Now in its third year, the seminar explores insights into the Hispanic consumer and what every organization should know about the U.S. Hispanic market. It highlights the dynamic changes occurring in the Hispanic market at a local, regional and national level. Participants learn what best-in-class companies are doing right to win the hearts of Hispanic consumers, as well as potential employees, and how to deliver culturally and linguistically competent communications to the largest and fastest growing ethnic market segment in the U.S.
