Resized Image Four years ago, the Citizens' Committee on Youth (CCY), INROADS, Inc. and WCPO-TV collaborated to create the CAREERS IN MEDIA (CIM) Minority High School Internship Program. This program is an initiative designed to enable high school juniors to explore the various career opportunities available in the media industry through an unpaid summer internship. Students receive the same hands-on experience usually reserved for college-level interns. It is our goal to encourage interested students to major in a media-related field in college.

Please click here for application and brochure. Please distribute them to current high school juniors and feel free to make copies as needed. The application deadline is March 31, 2005.

After 3 weeks we finally got first message from Gary Chavez, our Salsero from Dayton who visits us often in Cincinnati.

Gary was recently transfered to Iraq for 8 weeks assignment and as you can see from his article, he is missing Salsa and his Salsa friends in Dayton and Cincinnati.

Please feel free to drop him a line at his email address. He would love to hear from his Salsa friends...

Salsa dancing in Dayton? Yes! Thanks to Laura Chaves' efforts, there is a very nice location for dancing at Adam's Rib! As you can see from the pictures on the Web, despite the bad weather the evening attracted many Salseros.

Cookin' Up The Classic Music of Miles Davis With Latin Heat! "The Latin Side of Miles Davis" was a great concert at Gilly's in Dayton last Saturday.....

Resized Image

Just nominated for a Grammy award for Best Latin Jazz Performance and headliners at the 2004 Chicago Jazz Festival, trombonist Conrad Herwig and trumpeter Brian Lynch led a seven piece band of New York jazz and Latin music heavyweights in sizzling Latin arrangements of classic Miles Davis music. The group also included baritone saxophonist Ronnie Cuber, drummer Robby Ameen, and the Latin contingent: pianist Edsel Gomez (Puerto Rico), bassist Carlito Del Puerto (Cuba), and persussionist Pedro Martinez (Cuba).

It was nice to see that Latino events/restaurants made the "Top 100 Best of the City" list of the December 2004 edition of the "Cincinnati Magazine".

"The Mad Frog" with its Monday Latin Dance Night made the top "Monday Night Out" spot.

And "Sabor Peruano" took the top "Seviche" spot.

Congratulations to both of them!
