Dallas, Texas – October 26, 2006 – The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) announced the development of a new research division during its 17th annual conference in Cincinnati, OH. Currently known as the premier Hispanic business association, the creation of this new research division will lead NSHMBA into a future as the premier source of research on Hispanics in the workplace and in higher education.

Chosen to drive NSHMBA’s new division is Dr. Donna Maria Blancero. Dr. Blancero holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Relations from Cornell University and is the former Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. Dr. Blancero is also a Fellow of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. She is nationally recognized for her expertise in Latinos in Corporate America, as well as for her work in talent acquisition and retention, mentoring, developmental networks, work/family balance, gender differences, discrimination, fair treatment and psychological contracts.

With her specific experience, Dr. Blancero will develop the National Society of Hispanic MBA’s new research division as a value added service to current and future NSHMBA stakeholders. These include organization members, leaders, corporate sponsors, universities, as well as academic researchers and the community at large. According to NSHMBA CEO Lourdes Hassler and Chairman Manuel Fernandez, NSHMBA’s new division will use its research to create relevant educational programming for students and professionals, as well as statistical data for use by individuals, academia and corporate America.

The Business Journal of Hispanic Research, to be launched by NSHMBA’s new division in 2007, will include content from both academics and business practitioners with the goal of relaying both cutting-edge business theory and business best practices. Serving as publisher for the journal is Lourdes M. Hassler, NSHMBA CEO. Associate editors for the journal include Dr. Dianna L. Stone, Professor at the University of Texas, San Antonio; Dr. Miguel A. Quinones, Professor at Southern Methodist University; and Dr. Robert G. DelCampo, Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico.

‘Who’s Who in Corporate America and Academia’ here to woo sought after MBA grads and students

National Society of Hispanic MBAs brings more than 7,000 here for 17th Annual Conference and Career Expo

CINCINNATI – October 25, 2006 – Cincinnati USA’s world-class universities and a vibrant corporate community will be on display and among the nation’s top corporations and universities looking to tap top Hispanic talent here for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) 17th Annual Conference and Career Expo Cincinnati Oct. 26-28, 2006.

Providing the perfect mix to appeal to both attendees and exhibitors, Cincinnati USA has attracted record-breaking attendance for NSHMBA. More than 7,000 Hispanic MBAs and students, 250 companies, and 90 academic institutions will gather in Cincinnati USA at the newly expanded and renovated Duke Energy Center. Booked by the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau in April 2005, this event will bring more than 6,500 hotel room nights to the region. Previously held in Anaheim, California, Cincinnati was selected over Detroit for the 2006 convention.

“We are excited to welcome the National Society of Hispanic MBAs to Cincinnati USA,” said Dan Lincoln, president and CEO of the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The attendee and exhibitor list of NSHMBA is a virtual Who’s Who in Corporate America and Academia – and we have them right here in Cincinnati USA. What a great way to showcase the region as a place to meet, play and stay.”

Strong support by the local chapter and community played a vital part in attracting NSHMBA to Cincinnati USA. "NSHMBA chose Cincinnati because it is vibrant and diverse with a growing Hispanic population," said Lourdes Hassler, NSHMBA national president and CEO. “The Cincinnati chapter of this group is relatively young -- established in 2003 — and no doubt will continue to grow stronger.”

The conference will offer professional development seminars, university marketing and finance case competitions, resume and interview clinics, and networking events. The Career Expo boasts sold out exhibit space and will take place in Exhibit Halls A and B from 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. All sessions and events are closed to the general public.

The local chapter of NSHMBA has rallied behind the conference and organized the region’s participating corporations and universities on the Career Expo Exhibit Hall floor to form CinciPlaza. CinciPlaza participants will be co-located at the conference to showcase Cincinnati USA, and will provide information to attendees about the local business and education environment, as well as various community, arts, and professional organizations to help attract and retain talent to the region. The Cincinnati Ben-Gals are expected to visit CinciPlaza on Saturday between 2-4 p.m. as a show of support. For more information about CinciPlaza, please visit

To kick off the conference a press event will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, October 27 at the Duke Energy Center outside of Exhibit Hall B (5th Street concourse), followed by a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 9 a.m.

The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA), headquartered in Irving, Texas, was established in 1988 and serves 29 chapters and more than 6,200 members in the United States and Puerto Rico. It exists to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development. NHSMBA works to prepare Hispanics for leadership positions throughout the United States, so that they can provide the cultural awareness and sensitivity vital in the management of the nation’s diverse workforce

The legendary Cuban trompet player, Arturo Sandoval performed on Sunday, Oct. 22nd, with UC's College-Conservatory of Music Jazz Faculty & Student Jazz Ensemble. It was a fantastic concert, with "Maestro" not only playing jazz classics, but also some of his own compositions. Few years ago some of us were lucky to see Arturo Sandoval performing with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and this time it was as great as back then. While Mr. Sandoval is known mostly for his trompet playing, very few know that he is also a great piano and timbales player, easily moving from one to the other instrument.
