Events : Flamenco Dance Workshop (Cincinnati, Dec. 11)

Flamenco Dance instructor Diana Dinicola will be coming to Cincinnati for a for a one day Flamenco dance workshop.

The 4 hour session with a one hour break in the middle will be on Sunday December 11 at 10:00am – 3:00pm. Lunch break from 12:00 -1:00pm. This date is in consideration of those who are unavailable on Saturdays.

The cost of the 4 hour workshop is $60 ($70 at the door) and there must be at least 15 people registered in order to run the class. The maximum capacity for the studio is 30 students.

Deadline for registering is November 30.

The instructor will be Diana Dinicola who is an experienced flamenco dancer and teacher now living in Louisville Ky. (Bio below).
Suitable shoes: Flamenco dance shoes, character shoes, comfortable ankle height boots, or other comfortable dance shoes.
Attire: comfortable dance/workout clothes, pants or skirt.

Diana recently received her diploma for the advanced level intensive training program at the Fundacion Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco in Sevilla, Spain where she studied for 5 weeks with Rafael Campallo, Milagros Menjibar, Carmen Ledesma and Maribel Ramos "La Zambra". While based in Sevilla, she was able to experience a large quantity and wide variety of flamenco performances in Jerez and Sevilla including the famed venues of La Carboneria, Los Gallos and Casa de la Memoria. She has also studied at the National Flamenco Institute (1993, 1994, 1995) with teachers such as Maria Pages, Pastora Galvan, Mercedes Amaya, Rosario Toledo, Marija Temo, Antonio Hidalgo, El Tati and others. She has received additional flamenco training in New York and San Francisco. Diana Dinicola has danced since childhood, training in ballet, jazz and tap with the Margaret Leiber School, the Giordano Dance Center, School of the Atlanta Ballet, School of the Louisville Ballet and others.

Diana has also trained as a theatre major at Northwestern University where she received a BS in Communications and her teaching certification. She is a member of the inaugural class of the Kentucky Center for the Arts' ongoing Artist Educator Seminars, the prototype for a national model preparing artists as in-school educators. Diana is a veteran arts administrator and holds an MBA from Emory University.

SAMPLE FLAMENCO WORKSHOPS WITH DIANA DINICOLA

Beginner Technique
Palo: Tangos Length: Material covered depends on time spent. Workshop available in 2, 4 or 6 hours
(November 11 Workshop will be 4 hours with 1 hour break)
· Begin building a vocabulary of upper body movements suitable for letras
· Develop proper technique for striking the floor in footwork to prevent injury and build efficient movement
· Utilize golpe, planta and tacon in basic footwork patterns
· Introduce basic turns utilizing core muscles, spotting technique and proper brazeo to build efficient movement
· Practice proper palmas technique in compas
· Work with the guitarist and palmeras within basic tangos structure to communicate effectively and begin improvisation
No previous experience necessary
