MidwestLatino was featured in May's edition of "The Bottom Line", a monthly publication of NSHMBA (National Society of Hispanic MBAs)
NSHMBA was created in 1988 as a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. Widely known as the "Premier Hispanic Organization," NSHMBA serves 29 chapters and 6,500 members in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. It exists to foster Hispanic leadership through graduate management education and professional development. NSHMBA works to prepare Hispanics for leadership positions throughout the U.S., so that they can provide the cultural awareness and sensitivity vital in the management of the nation’s diverse workforce.
2006 is a very important year for the Cincinnati chapter of NSHMBA, as it will host the 17th Annual National Conference of this organization. There are over 7,000 Hispanic MBA's expected to come to the conference, and with this number this will be definitely the biggest gathering of Hispanic professionals in history of Cincinnati.
To become member of NSHMBA, please contact our Cincinnati chapter's Vice President of Membership, Juan Lazarde. To read the the NSMBA article, click here....

| Community : Senate passes sweeping immigration bill |

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate on Thursday passed an immigration overhaul that would give millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens, as backers braced for a bruising battle with the House of Representatives.
The Senate voted 62-36 for the bipartisan bill that couples border security and enforcement with a guest worker program and a plan that would put most of the 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants on a path to U.S. citizenship.
It is the most sweeping immigration bill in two decades and has to be merged with a vastly different House bill that calls for tough border security and enforcement measures. President George W. Bush has said he supports a comprehensive approach to immigration reform along the lines passed by the Senate.
But it is unclear lawmakers will be able to work out the differences before the November congressional elections. Republican opponents said they would try to rewrite the bill. |

| Community : Bienestar Hispanic Health Fair (May 21, 2006) |
| Posted by admin on 2006/5/22 14:30:00 (1091 reads) |
This past Sunday, May 21, Bienestar, a service of Santa Maria Community Services, organized a Hispanic Health Fair at the Price Hills Community Center. Many Hispanics were able to take advantage of this event to check on the health of their children, as well as of themselves. The health checks included dental, vision, blood pressure, and others. Many of the local community organizations, such as Red Cross, were there to assist and educate the attendees on health issues.
Unfortunately, it seems like the recent immigration raids created a fear of in community, and many of the Hispanics stayed away, resulting in less visitors than in previous years.

Our thanks go to all the volunteers, especially the medical staff, who offered their free time to help the Hispanic community!

Local Salsero extraordinaire, Malik Spencer, will be performing June 2 and 3, 2006 in a show at the Aronoff Center:
http://www.cincinnatiarts.org/tickets/detail.php?event_id=488
This dance with a cast of 26 people, will be a journey into the culture in Pre-Inquisition Spain where the Hebrew, Moorish (Arabic), Gypsy and Christian Spanish communities interacted. Using four magnificent choral and orchestral, musical gems by Bonia Shur, the dancers will exalt the quiet beauty within these cultures during times of tolerance during the 11th to 14th centuries and passionately celebrate the hope that this will happen again.
The capes and tabards worn by the dancers will become medieval cave temples, tree roots, wedding canopies, clouds and stars and symbols of the three religions, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.
