Dayton, Ohio. - The University of Dayton through its office of Diverse Student Populations, Latin American Student Services Division, invites the community to participate in the nomination of candidates for “The Alma Latina Award.” This award honors individuals or organizations that have excelled in the Dayton and Miami Valley community through their efforts to help Latinos and keep the Hispanic culture alive. Nominations for the award will be accepted during the first week of May. The party with "Son del Caribe" was AWESOME!!! The fundraiser for the Latin American Association (LAA) and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) packed the Gilly's with hundreds of Salsaholics and people who just wanted to have FUN! We had Salsa lessons with Laurie Chaves, Conga dances and Limbo contest. And most of all - a LOT of FUN!!! The best party ever in Dayton!

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton City Commission unanimously passed a resolution that approves ID cards for Mexican and Guatemalan nationals by their respective consulates as valid identification. The legislation will take effect in 30 days. The cards can be used for such instances such as a traffic stop, applying for a library card, signing up for utilities, getting bank accounts or enrolling children in school. |

On Friday, April 15, the Northern Kentucky University, under leadership of its President, Mr. James Votruba, hosted the first workshop and panel discussion "Latino Pathways Workshop" addressing issues specific to the growing Latino population in our region with regard to access to educational opportunities.

Congratulations to "Nuestro Rincon" which celebrated on Wed. with a small group of co-workers and friends its 1st Anniversary. The Nuestro Rincon team can definitely look back at the past year with pride and satisfaction! Starting from zero by being the first program in Spanish in the Tri-State area, they've made a difference by delivering news and covering issues that are of importance to the Latino community!
