Please join us for the first performance of The Amador Sisters at University of Cincinnati !

The Amador Sisters, originally from Cuba, are two talented musicians educated in top music schools in Cuba: Mai Martinez is a graduate of “Jose White” Music Conservatory, and Dali Amador graduated from Amadeo Roldan Music Conservatory and Instituto Superior de Arte.

Growing up, they loved to play together at home, and creating music was the perfect playground for both of them. After graduation, they followed separate music careers performing all over the world with different Cuban bands, incl. Dubai, Thailand, Japan, and many countries in Latin America. In 2008 they were finally able to reunite for a concert in Tokyo, Japan, accomplishing their dream of performing together side by side as professional musicians.

In 2013 Mai moved to Cincinnati to join her brother, Cervilio Amador, the principal dancer of Cincinnati Ballet, followed by Dali in 2014, and now they can perform again together as The Amador Sisters, sharing their love for Latin music!

"1 out of 3 women die from cardiovascular disease and stroke, but yet it is 80% preventable." That's actually a heartbreaking statistic when you think about all the mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, nieces, cousins and friends that could have spent more time with their loved ones but a disease that is 80% preventable took their lives early.  Thankfully, there are many individuals and organizations that are standing up and fighting for the lives of women who are threatened by what was once known as a "man's disease."

February is American Heart Month and will be the month that many women will learn information that will potentially save their lives.

To help get this message out, MidwestLatino is organizing "SALSA IN RED" event on Wed. Feb. 11th:

Tango Buenos Aires has become one of Argentina’s great cultural exports, known throughout the Americas, Europe, and the Far East as the most authentic and uncompromising representative of the Tango.

The acclaimed dance company’s 'Song of Eva Perón' is a Tango dance and music presentation inspired by the most important feminine character in Argentinian history, Eva Perón. Tracing her epic life –- from her ascent to fame in the 1930s to her death in 1952 -– this is a sparkling and poignant spectacle that is not to be missed.

Renowned for her flawless technique and innate musicality, Berta Rojas ranks among today’s foremost classical guitarists. She has been praised as “guitarist extraordinaire” by the Washington Post and by Classical Guitar Magazine as an “Ambassador of the classical guitar.”

Berta’s acknowledged warmth and musicality have accorded her a place of preference among audiences that have applauded her at such major stages as the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall and the Frederick P. Rose Hall of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, London’s South Bank Centre, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and the National Concert Hall in Dublin where she performed as a soloist with the Irish Radio and Television Orchestra, or Flagley Studio 4 in Brussels where she performed with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra for the Belgian National Television. She also had the honor of opening the Summit of the First Ladies of the Americas attended by then First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Solo performances by Berta Rojas showcase her interpretive and technical mastery that introduces audiences to new compositions in addition to offering wonderful interpretations of the most traditional repertoire of the guitar. At each concert Berta takes audiences on a colorful journey of sound that includes introducing novel works by composers from diverse traditions. Performing pieces by new composers, Berta helps rejuvenate the traditional classical guitar repertoire.

Rojas has been honored as a Fellow of the Americas by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for her artistic excellence. She is also privileged to be the Ambassador of Tourism for her country, Paraguay.
