Business : USHCC Urges Action by Congress on Economic Stabilization Plan

Washington, DC — The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) issued the following letter to Members of Congress urging the need to take action, stabilize the U.S. financial markets and prevent the country from spiraling into economic turmoil:  

Dear Member of Congress:

On behalf of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the national representatives for 2.5 million Hispanic-owned businesses, we write to urge reconsideration and passage of an emergency economic stabilization plan that takes into account the needs of the Hispanic community.

Business : Radio La Ley Radio Station Sold

In July of 2006 the radio station WCVG 1320 AM was purchased for $1.9 million by Davidson Group and started broadcasting as "Radio La Ley" programs is Spanish.

On September 8, 2008, the WCVG 1320 AM Radio Station returned to its Urban Gospel format under the same management that had previously operated it. 

We are saying "Goodbye" to Radio La Ley and wish all its staff good luck in their professional careers.

At the same we would like remind that there are still other radio programs in Spanish in Cincinnati:

1) Every Monday 6-8 PM  Buenos Días América w/ Rudy Alvarez (Radio) on WAIF 88.3 FM

Business : Daniel Conde - recognized in "40 under 40"

 The Forty Under 40 program was started in 1995 to identify and recognize the Tri-State's up-and-coming business, community and economic leaders. Since then, over 400 local individuals have become a Forty Under 40 alumnus and have been recognized for their business accomplishments and their contributions to the community.

Each year, the program kicks off with a nomination process in the spring. Nominations are collected by the Business Courier and handed over to an independent panel of judges. After the judges meet and make their selections, a new Forty Under 40 class is announced by the Business Courier in late summer. The new class is honored at an evening dinner and recognition ceremony in the fall, which this year will be on Thursday, Sept. 25th.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Daniel Conde , who is one of the selected winners. Daniel is very active in NSHMBA and in the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and he definitely deserves this award.

Congratulations to Macy's for  being winning the #12 place in the "Top 60 Diversity Elite 2008" published by the Hispanic Business Magazine!!!!

Macy's was able to beat such well know names as: PepsiCo, McDonald's, American Express, Verizon, Chrysler and Ford, so it's clear that this is a great achievement for Macy's!

Frank Venegas Jr., Chairman and CEO of Ideal Group Inc., will be the Keynote Speaker at the Ohio Hispanic Chambers of Commerce Gala Dinner on Sept. 12th .

Headquartered in the Southwest Detroit barrio known as Mexicantown, and employing 250 people, The Ideal Group companies’ combined 2007 annual revenues exceeded $151 million. In 2004, Inc. Magazine selected Venegas as one its of 25 America’s Most Fascinating Entrepreneurs and USHCC named Venegas as its 2004 Business Man of the Year. General Motors has awarded The Ideal Group its prestigious performance award, the GM Global Supplier of the Year (2002-2007) for Best in Class Construction Services and Material Management.

Business : NSHMBA presenting First Annual Executive Perspective Event

The Cincinnati chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) has announced the official lineup of panel speakers for its inaugural Executive Perspective event, sponsored by Accenture. Five of the six featured speakers are Cincinnati area executives. This year’s topic is: “Developing a High Performance Mindset,” and the program will be held Thursday, August 7 at the Westin hotel.

Presenters include:
· Steve Aguilar, VP of operations for the Mid-America Zone of State Farm
· Miguel Alemañy, Director of worldwide research and development, Procter & Gamble
· Mark G. Contreras, Senior VP of newspapers, E. W. Scripps Company
· Tillie Hidalgo Lima, CEO Best Upon Request
· Nelson Rosario, GM, international programs, General Electric Aviation
· Jay Zerbe, utility industry managing partner, Accenture

Each of the speakers is invited to deliver a brief presentation related to the event’s topic, followed by a question-answer session and networking opportunity.

NSHMBA Cincinnati  

Are you a professional looking for a new career, or a student looking for a great position following graduation or a summer internship?

An upcoming NSHMBA event, “Connecting Firms with Hispanic Talent”, sponsored by Duke Energy, and hosted by Xavier University,  will give you an opportunity on Saturday, April 5th, from 11 AM - 4 PM to meet with representatives from local companies across the Greater Cincinnati area.  The agenda includes lunch with company representatives, a brief company profile by each attending company, and finally, while company representatives stay at their respective tables, candidates rotate on scheduled timing between all the tables.  You’ll have an opportunity to meet all the company representatives.  This format provides a much more personal approach than a standard career fair.  Plan to arrive on time and stay until the end when we’ll raffle off some great prizes.

Last year we had companies such as Procter & Gamble, Fifth Third, Deloitte, Cintas, Kroger, and American Family Insurance, participating in the event.

Dress code is Business!  Please bring 20 copies of your resume. Free Lunch will be provided.

To help you prepare for this important event, NSHMBA will host two free workshop sessions, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, where experienced recruiters will provide coaching on resume writing/interviewing skills.  The workshops will be held at the Fifth Third Center on:

Nationwide Insurance is presently looking for individuals interested in starting Insurance Agency in the Cincinnati/Dayton area. 

On Thursday, April 24th, from 5pm - 7:30pm, Nationwide insurance will conduct a seminar designed to provide information about Nationwide and the positions currently available.  They will discuss income potentials and required training to succeed.  Unlike other recruitment events, this seminar is educational in nature and we will have representatives ready to speak with the interested candidate one on one at the end of our seminar.
