National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 thru October 15. Ohio Latino Fest will kick off the month at Nautica Pavilion on Saturday, October 2, 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Latino community is comprised of many nationalities and cultural groups. Northern Ohio is home to more than 65% of the Latino community in the state of Ohio, and Cuyahoga County enjoys one of the largest Latino communities in the state. Cleveland and the surrounding areas have one of the largest Puerto Rican populations, and Painesville is one of the fastest growing Mexican communities in Ohio. While Ohio’s population grew at a rate of just under 5%, the Hispanic population in Ohio grew at a 55% rate, and continues to grow. The Latino community is the largest ethnic group in the United States, and is one of the most sought after buying groups in America.
Ohio Latino Fest will honor our local Latinos and their cultural diversity including music, food, art and dance that reflect their heritage. Come celebrate with others from the community!!
On behalf of the Ohio Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, we would like thank all who participated in our 2010 Awards Gala Dinner! It was a great success!!!

In September 1968, Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week. The observance was expanded in 1988 to a month-long celebration (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15).
America celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
Sept. 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively.
The local chapter celebrated its founding with a reception at the Procter & Gamble headquarters from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 27.
"The formation of the SHPE Chapter in Cincinnati provides an opportunity for us to become the obvious source for quality Hispanic professionals in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,” said Jorge Seda, president of the new chapter. “We will fulfill our mission by promoting educational and networking opportunities, professional and personal growth while enhancing the pride and reputation of the Hispanic community. These goals culminate with the SHPE National Convention to be held in our city in October."
The Cincinnati chapter was founded in part to help support and prepare for the SHPE National Conference, the largest technical conference for Hispanics in the nation, which will bring an estimated 5,000 SHPE members to Cincinnati USA in October 27-31, 2010.
Event speakers included:
Barry Cordero, SHPE Regional Vice President
Milton Dohoney, City Manager, City of Cincinnati
Jorge Seda, SHPE Cincinnati President
Linda W. Clement-Holmes, Chief Diversity Officer & Senior VP Global Business Services, Procter & Gamble
Miguel Alemany, Director, Global Baby Care Research & Development, Procter & Gamble

He became famous as an interpreter of the complex, radio-ready lyrics of amor y desamor, love and its trials. The power of his performances comes from his mastery of traditional Puerto Rican singing.
